It seems everybody wants big arms. Some guys want them so they can win body building contests, and others just want to stretch out the arms of their body building t shirt. Either way, it’s no secret that having the biggest arms around is a common goal.
When I was first starting out in bodybuilding, I remember seeing a picture of Mike Matarazzo standing waist deep in a swimming pool and flexing his arms in a body building magazine. I can still see it like it was yesterday, and I remember that they were the biggest biceps I had ever seen! His front double biceps pose was absolutely amazing, and it fueled many workouts for me.
There are a few schools of thought when it comes to the subject of building the biceps. Some believe in high reps and many sets with a relatively light weight, trying to get a muscle pump and keep it as long as possible. Some people believe the best way to build muscle is to lift very heavy weights for low reps to failure. Then there are the guys that get overly caught up in one aspect of training as though it is a magical body building secret that will fix any training problem.
I know of a guy who constantly tries to push his theories on everyone in the gym. He is obsessed with forced reps. “You will never grow and get any stronger unless you do forced reps on every set of every exercise.” He even does them on half-squats! Now that’s a guy that is missing the big picture of muscle growth.
The truth is that the best way to build muscle so that you can have the biggest biceps in your gym, is somewhere in the middle of that whole mess. I am going to save you loads of time and frustration by spelling it out for you right now.
If you want to build muscle fast, you need to make that muscle work as hard as possible without overstressing your nervous system. If you have been lifting weights for long enough, you may have noticed a difference between a weight that is too light to stress the muscle and too heavy to contract the muscle fully. If you have to do 15 reps before you really feel the muscle working, you are on the wrong track. If the weight is so heavy that moving the weight is your first concern, you are not able to completely flex the muscle, and you risk stressing your nervous system more than necessary.

Before I go any further, I want to stress that, as a strength athlete, I am definitely not against lifting heavy, but training for muscle growth is different than training for strength. Training for the biggest biceps is all about muscle growth.
Now if you really want the biggest biceps you can get, you have to find a weight that you can feel is working the muscle from the first few reps. It should also be heavy enough that you can not do more than 8 to 10 reps in good form. These numbers are not absolute, but they are good guidelines to follow. When you have found what that weight is for you, the only thing left is the hard work.
The best way to build muscle is lifting properly with the right amount of weight, and doing that for enough total workload. With your goal of building the biggest biceps around, that means doing one or two biceps exercises for about 8 sets of 8 to 10 repetitions. You should also rest only 90 to 120 seconds between sets to maximize the stress on the muscle.
If you follow this program, you should start to see some real results within the first couple of weeks, especially if you follow a proper body building diet. With hard work and by following this workout you can be on your way to developing the biggest biceps in town!
